St. David's Day

St. David's Day
Today is the day of St. David, the patron saint of Wales. According to a legend, St. David lived for several years on bread and wild leeks, and nowadays the leek is the symbol of Wales. Another Welsh symbol is the daffodil, which is believed to flower on St. David's day.

Charles to Lynne

Dear Lynne,

This card was to have been sent from Yellowstone. I'd been looking forward to visiting the oldest national park in America, tracking wild animals, seeing petrified forest and bathing in a geyser. Alas - I had to change my plans; I'm going to New Orleans.

I share you enthusiasm for North Wales. Do you know that I once taught English in a Welsh school?

Yours,

Charles

Interesting ville

Interesting ville

An unusual house

One of the most unusual houses in the world is the Winchester Mansion in California.

There are 160 rooms, 2,200 dors, 10, 000 windows, 3 elevators, 9 kitchens, and kilometres of secret passages, corridors and stairways. Some rooms are only a few centimetres wide, some stairways go nowhere, and many windows open onto blank walls. The owner of the house, Mrs Sara Winchester, spent over $ 5,000,000 on it. She feared that she would die if she stopped adding rooms to her house!
